Re: Intersted in Titanic.

Hi Tom

I started been interested in the titanic after seeing the film a night to remember, I then started to research the ship from the school library who managed to get me a load of books and information on the ship and line. Followed by the advent of the INTERNET I was involved in the well one of the firs message boards on the titanic which has sadly gone now.

In all that has been 39 years of research.

But I have to stress it is not all titanic research as now I have stopped anything to do with the titanic, given away all my books and research apart from one book and now just answer questions that I can nothing more.

My interests are now in the society which is growing well and hopefully soon will have its own domain and company new offices.

We are currently looking at a research vessel which is for sale in Scotland and are in the progress of restoring a old ton class Minehunter and looking at another two of these.

We have our own training department with links to schools colleges and universities and backed by the Government.

I first become interested in Titanic after watching a short documentary when I was a child. I then bought a Titanic book and just continued reading about the ship in books newspapers and magazines until I found Titanic forums on the internet in I think 2002 and created this forum in 2003. At the moment I mostly research the White Star Line by looking through archives and that sort of thing. I am also researching Titanic itself a lot more now too.

Hi Tom

The main issue I have with the Titanic is the fact most of the modern day research is done. Until more material is available which will come on the hundredth birthday I feel sure and always have done nothing more can really be done.

Of course researchers disagree with each other over issues and the non provable things keep going on.

Plus in the research field of Titanic all people seem to want to do is back stab and flame each other.

Re: Intersted in Titanic.

I grew up in a sailing family and spent a lot of time in boat yards and on the water along the coast. For some reason I had always been more interested in sunken ships and deep sea wreck diving...even as a little kid I would read stuff, draw pictures of sunken ships, and daydream about them. One day my older brother had the book 'Night to Remember' and I realized now THERE'S a sunken ship! ...and the rest as they say, was all downhill from there.
By the way, I ultimately did get to be a wreck diver and did my Masters work in underwater archaeology, worked in the field for some years and have since joined a relic diving crew and spent a lot of time on many shipwrecks retrieving some pretty amazing stuff.
So I'd say it's been pretty much part of a lifelong interest, but the Titanic has always remained the undisputed Queen of sunken ships!
And you can see I am more interested in her sinking and wreck than I am in the personalities etc. All that opulence going to the bottom.

Yes, I do feel lucky in many ways. And I have never taken my job for granted--not a day goes by when I don't think how truly lucky I am to love it so much.
But then it did take hard work, determination and perserverance.
