Titanic museum in Fla.
So later this month I am taking a jaunt to Tampa/Orlando. I hear there is a Titanic museum of sorts there--I think it's called Ship of Dreams or something like that.
My time is going to be extremely limited (4 days and a lot to do). Is this place something I should try to fit in? What's it like? I hear they have a full scale replica of the Grand Staircase (could you imagine a photo of me standing on it?).
What does anyone here know? Where is it exactly--how do I get there? Is it any good?
You know, all those kinds of questions....

The reaction to this place has been all over the map, from what I've heard. Apparently, they have reinactors who take the roles of various passengers who take you through the exhibits. Some of them don't know the sroey as well as others, and therefore have problems. Myself, heck, I'd go just to see what it was like, they have enough real items, and I can't see why not.

I agree with ttf. The actors are mixed. One in particular, Adrienne, is very good. Ask for her if you can. Others have inaccurately relayed information. But, as ttf says, it's worth going to see if you are there. I would also recommend Wonderworks, just a few blocks down the street from Titanic Ship of Dreams. It's the upside down house.

Re: Titanic museum in Fla.
Thanks for the tips. Where is it exactly--I don't know the area at all. Anyone have an address?
I don't know if I'll really have time to get there, but sounds worth a try.

Re: Titanic museum in Fla.
It's in a shopping area called the Mercado. I know a huge FAO Schwartz toy store is down the block, as is the huige upside building Wonderworks. If I remember correctly, there's a Guiness Book of world records exhibit in the Mercado as well, so turn in at the huge Globe, not quite as large as a Planet Hollywood globe, but identifiable just as well. There are several nice sidewalk style cafes, so you can have a drink under an umbrella while you absorb your visit.

Re: Titanic museum in Fla.
so it is worth seeing then . you would think as popular as the exhibits are they would at least make sure their actors know their stuff.

Re: Titanic museum in Fla.
agreed.
Some do, but for others, I guess it's a job.
I was present on one tour where Olympic memorabilia was incorrectly presented as being from Titanic, and on another board, a member went and they were told that RMSTI was recovering artifacts and trying to sell them all on ebay, which is a bogus statement of course. But, there are a few who care to be accurate.
I hope you get the good guides! And be sure to follow up and tell what you think about it!

Re: Titanic museum in Fla.
I tried to politely state that "I believe the set is from the Olympic. RMSTI has never recovered an artifact like this" It also didn't do well when the guide asked me where my knowledge from Titanic came from, and when I told him I was a member of one expedition, he wasn't as incorrect with his statements.

Re: Titanic museum in Fla.
lol way to go.
i bet they didnt like that too much huh?
it is good though that they are doing things like that to keep the memmory of titanic alive...however it really does no good if the information they give is incorrect.
it causes problems for everyone. misinformed is a major problem though especially when you are dealing with something as large as titanic... however im sure im not telling you anything you dont already know.
on a different note you were on an expedition ?
cool would love to hear about it sometime.
