posticon Iceberg Warnings!!!

I just have to ask this, in lieu of my four Marconi Operatives in my combo TITANIC-Touched By An Angel fanfic story I'm still working on...

Aside from Captain E.J. Smith, if he isn't available, who else should accept the incoming iceberg warnings to be posted on the bulletin board?

a) Wilde
b) Will Murdoch
c) Lightoller

And speaking of the bulletin board, where on the bridge is it located, where it can easily be seen by Titanic's officers?

Here is a dialogue line between angel Gloria & Jack Phillips...

"The iceberg warnings, IMHO, should take precedent over the passengers' messages," Gloria suggests to Jack, "or otherwise, there'll be dire consequences made as to Titanic's heading."

Jack is puzzled to say the least, hearing this admission from his lady assistant.

How do you like Gloria's line? In my story, Gloria & Andrew assist Jack & Harold Bride in the Marconi Room. While Harold handles the passengers' messages, Andrew handles the iceberg warnings...for which he delivers them to the bridge.

ok tammy.

the oow will be the one to take the messages..
and that is only if the captain can not be found.
as for where the messages are posted...
well they are posted in the chart room located directly behind the bridge.

it is posted on a board and it should be within plain view of the officers and other personnel.

Hi Wills

I agree with your answer totaly, It was any officer available that took the message .

The chart room where the messages where placed is because when plotting course and speed etc. that is the logical place for it so they can then take mesures to miss any burgs, well in theory anyway.

Re: Iceberg Warnings!!!

Thank you, Lill & Graham, for that very helpful information.emoticon

Then my Will will not only have the iceberg warnings delivered to him by angel Andrew...another angel, James, will come on duty same time my husband does, to take over the wheel on the bridge to steer Titanic.

Therefore, he will be substituting for QM Robert Hichens.

Which brings me to mention that angels not only have a direct line with a higher authority, above Captain Smith...they also have extraordinary eyesight, that their ordinary human counterparts don't have. Meaning, James, at the wheel will spot the iceberg way before Will or Frederick Fleet does, and start to turn the ship accordingly in a safer direction, or...

He can warn Will about it (let's see--isn't James Moody suppose to be standing there on the bridge behind James, so he can tell Moody to get my husband?) before things start to get dangerous.

Which of these steps should James take?

Hi Tammy

I do not know if this will help you or not but whoever is on the wheel of the ship cannot see out of the wheel house, The only light is a small one in the compas in order to check heading and the wheelman cannot see the sea ahead of him at all.

On older ships where the wheel was on deck and open if the wheelman saw something before the lokouts he would turn the wheel himsellf if he could not raise a officer to order him to do so. It is like we do driving a car instinct would cut in, This in a way was why the wheelhouse was made secure so the helmsman would not deviate course.

I hope this helps you in some way

Actually Graham, correct me if I am wrong...the OOW would take any ice message that was not a Master Service Message...it was up to his discretion as to whether or not to send it to wherever the captain might be at any given time.

Also, MurdochsAid, for your convenience, watches for OOWs on Titanic were as follows:

2AM(and PM)to 6AM(and PM)
Chief Officer Henry Wilde

6AM (and PM)to 10AM (and PM)
Second Officer Charles Lightoller
(generally relieved for dinner around 7PM by First Officer Murdoch)

10AM (and PM) to 2AM (and PM)
First Officer William Murdoch
(generally relieved for lunch about 12noon to 12:30PM by Second Officer Lightoller)

Hope this will help.

Warmest Regards,
Lights

Thank you, guys, you're great help to me! And Lights, having the OOW schedule does help tremendously, too.

Having an angel at the helm on Will's time, plays very much into how The Man Upstairs wants to help him change.emoticon

Also, please remember, angels are extraordinary beings whom have sharp X-ray eyes that can penetrate through any object. That's my angel, James, has been assigned to quartermastership.

James, is the persona of actor Robert Powell, who is best known for playing the title role of Jesus of Nazareth, a Franco Zefferilli Film miniseries. He is blue-eyed, with curly dark-brown hair, and stands approximately the same height as Will.

Re: Iceberg Warnings!!!

Who recieved the warnings was pretty much dependant on how they were addressed. Captain, Titanic was usually delivered directly to whomever was in charge of the bridge. Captain Smith and any of the various permutations were sent directly to the man, and he was chased down accordingly. Ice field warnings and navigational information, if recognized as such, was sent to the bridge.

One of the important things to remember is that the telegraphers weren't being paid by the White Star Line for their services - they were being paid by Marconi to deliver messages to the passengers. Anything the ship recieved was on the side and unexpected.

TTF, in my crossover TITANIC-TBAA Fanfic story, my angels; Monica, who is a lovely redheaded Irish lass, (I still haven't found a suitable place for her yet), Gloria, Andrew, and James are posing in humanform aboard different working areas of the ship. So no, they don't get paid, but they still help out just the same.

Gloria & Andrew, help out in the Marconi Room; she relieves for Jack Phillips by taking over the Marconi machine, and Andrew does the delivering of the iceberg warnings...leaving Harold Bride to deliver messages to the passengers.

And James (that's him you see up in my above post) substitutes for QM Robert Hichens at the wheel on the bridge, on the same watch as my Will's.

That's why my story is called a fanfiction crossover.
