Hi Lights

Not quite as good as she seems here though, She had a big ulterior motive to go home.

Re: J Bruce Ismay (opinions)

Hi Lights

When Titanic sailed Bruce's brother was not well, Bruce was away from the home obviously, and she was on honeymoon driving round Wales in her new car. ( well not quite new ) In the wake of the accident the Ismays in UK did not know strait away that Bruce had survived.

She stood to gain quite a responsibility if anything had happened to Bruce so home she went. Plus it was rumoured and I stress rumoured that the honeymoon was not going quite to plan as well.

Regards
Graham

Im sorry i dont mean to interupt, but you got me wondering now, what responsibility did she stand to gain? Was it that she was going to lose that car over financial matters or she would have to do something else? sorry but you got me intrigued now

My overall opinoin of bruce to answer the question in the thread is that i think that there are alot of what ifs and why nots that are clouding a lot of peoples judgement of ismay. Personally i use to be one till someone further enlightened me, i think that bruce probably was in fear for his life. As i have said before nobody can really say what they would do in that given situation, and from what i have learned of him i dont think that he got that seat ( in my opinion) without making sure that there werent others that were in need of a rescue boat.

hi Titanicangel06

You are not interrupting here at all that's what the forum is for, Lights wont mind much anyway :-) ( says he who is now dreading the wrath of Lights soon to come ).

She stood to gain a considerable amount of income, But with that came the work as well. Ismays had a lot of business commitment and she would of been one of the line to run it. Plus she was lets say less than good with money, Or so I have been told.

Plus as lights points out she was a daddy's girl.

On the Ismays in general it is a shame that people do not read about him, ask questions about him or research him before jumping on the band wagon of hate like so many do. The films have never given him a good side as yet, which I feel is totally unfair and unjust. Good on you though to take the time to find out a bit more on the man.

Graham

Poor Ismay tends to get the dirty end of the stick in all versions of the TITANIC story...the only film I have ever seen which treats him fairly is SOS TITANIC...the other films where he shows up show him to be at best an ineffectual buffoon or at worst a martinet who drove TITANIC's captain to go at an unsafe speed. Ditto most of the TITANIC books.

I would love to see someone do a book, novel, whatever, showing things from Ismay's side!
