The only prob with eBay is you have to be very careful about anything lised there.

as many transactions as i have had on there i have only been cheated 2 times so i guess that isnt too bad.

AND there is no guarantee what you think you're getting is what you do get - I'll stick to the antiques dealers, thanks, they may cost more but they stand behind what they sell you.

i have a 1849 poem book by tennyson .

TTF, do you ever find much in the way of Titanic stuff from an antique dealer? Or do you hit the specialized type dealer?
Me, I'd only use eBay for the typical reproduction things to try to get them at a lower price...which means I can't bid much. Usually the first bid over mine gets higher than I can get the item elsewhere.
Bibliofind is good for books though.

Seeing as almost everything I have with the exception of two newspapers (both from dealers) is books maybe I'm not the one to ask.

yeah you can get things from antique dealers but look topay a larger sum than usual.
however as ttf said in a previous post and i agree too 100% they do tend to stick by what they sell.

Dealers in the UK tend to put a mark up of around 200% on things expecting to be knocked down by 50% so in reality you still pay around 75% more than it is worth. And you also never let them know it is for the US or the price doubles in seconds

On the other hand I have heard a number of horror stories about eBay (you don't get banned until you have a 100% negative reponse record, for instance) so I would be very careful with anything there.
