Did anyone bid on the Ebay live auction ? I won the Jack postcard :)

Hello

This was my first live auction and I was not expecting to win. I think there were about 20 bids in all emoticon

I suppose it is my first proper Titanic item other than my autograph collection.

What I can't understand is why there is a postcard of the Titanic on the normal ebay ( not live auctions ) which has a brief message on the back saying something along the lines of - Just seen the crowds outside the White Star Office how awful ( something like that ) and that is up to about $530, yet this postcard from Jack Phillips cost me about £560 ($950). There will be an extra charge but they have not sent the invoice yet.

I would have thought a poscard with a personal message on from a well known hero in the Titanic story would be worth a lot more - taking into account this Ebay postcard with a message from someone whom was just passing by is going for so much. Who knows might even catch up with the Jack Phillips postcard !! Tho I doubt it...

But then I don't really know anything about what things are worth. I know what i'd rather have for my money emoticon

It's an Americanism that means you got lucky.

As Winston Churchill said, two nations divided by naught but a common language.....

Oh ok. I don't really know how lucky I got. Maybe not that lucky - but I'm happy.
I thought everyone on Ebay looked out for stuff like this....

Maybe it is hard with live auctions as people tend to be at work and can to be there at a certain time in order to take part.

I'm sure people must be aware of the items that were up for sale.

Well at least I know it is real. And it's a nice happy sort of message on the card posted in 1911 about coming home to his sister I think.

I was interested to read that he had worked on the Lusitania and Mauretania also.So there is the connection with those ships also.

It can't have been written more than a few months before he worked on the Titanic.

Wicked yeah yeah - that's an english expression btw emoticon

yes you have to definately be carefull when it says authentic on it. especially when buying it off ebay or anywhere you can not see it before you buy in person.
