White Star Line Ships.

RMS Majestic (1):

White Star Lines slightly younger sister ship of Teutonic, Majestic was launched at Harland and Wolff on 29th June 1889.

Her maiden voyage from Liverpool - New York started on 2nd April 1890.

She won the Blue Riband for a westbound crossing of 5 days, 18 hours and 8 minutes, at an average speed of 21 knots, in July 1891.

She had two trooping voyages during the Boer war, during December 1899 and February 1900.

During 1902-1903, she had her funnels made higher, new boilers fitted and had one of her three masts removed.

In June 1907 she moved to the Southampton - New York service.

She was taken out of service in November 1911 and put into reserve due to Olympic coming into service.

After Titanic sank on her maiden voyage, Majestic was put back into service as Titanic's "replacement".

According to 9th May 1913 New York times...In May of 1913 a crew member of Majestic (presumed to have) committed suicide by jumping over board. About 3 days after that another crew member tried to commit suicide by jumping over board but was heard and seemed to change his mind once he hit the water, Majestic's port side emergency boat was lowered into the sea and Majestic's first officer David Blair (the same man who was second officer on Titanic until Mr Wilde was made chief officer, just for her maiden voyage) jumped over board to save the man, both him and the man were safely brought back onboard.

Majestic started her last voyage on 14th January 1914 and was then sold for scrap.

The owners of the ship breakers made a nice bit of money from Majestic by opening her to the public during the summer of 1914.

RMS Adriatic:

Launched in 1906.

Her maiden voyage started on 8th May 1907 from Liverpool - New York, just like Titanic she was under the command of EJ Smith. On her return instead of landing at Liverpool she landed at Southampton.

When Adriatic left Southampton on 5th June 1907 it made her the first White Star ship to depart from Southampton.

In 1911 she returned back to Liverpool due to Olympic coming into service.

She then returned back to Southampton in 1919 until 1922 when she again returned back to Liverpool.

From 1926 she was used only as a cruise ship and in in 1928 she was converted to cabin class.

When Cunard and White Star merged in May 1934 it was decided that it was the end for Adriatic, so after that years cruise season finished she was laid up and sold for scrap.

Medic:

The White Star Lines Jubilee class ship Medic was built by Harland and Wolff and launched 106 years ago today!!!!!!!!!! (on the 15th December 1898).

She started her maiden voyage from Liverpool - Sydney on 3rd August 1899.

In June of 1928 the Medic was sold, renamed Hektoria and converted into a whale factory, she even had a ramp put on her stern so that they could get the whales aboard her.

While she was serving as a British Ministry of war transport oil tanker, in September 1942, she was hit by a torpedo from U 608 and sunk.

Baltic (2):

The White Star Lines 1900's Big four class ship the RMS Baltic (2) was launched on 21st November 1903.

The then largest ship in the world, Baltic, started her maiden voyage on 29th June 1904 from Liverpool - New York.

On 23rd January 1909 in heavy fog the White Star Liner Republic was rammed into by a ship called Florida who had many survives from an earthquake aboard, The damage was so bad that the Republic was sinking and the passengers were transfered to the also damaged Florida.

The Republic's wireless operator Jack Binns sent out a distress call which was received by Baltic via Siasconsett.

The Baltic steamed to the Republic and Florida (I'll go into this in more detail when I post about Republic) and rescued the people aboard the Florida and the few who were left aboard Republic before she sunk.

During World War One the Baltic was used as a troop ship and survived a u boat attack undamaged.

In 1918 she returned to her White Star Line Liverpool - New York service.

Baltic started her last voyage on 17th September 1932 and was sold for scrap the year later.

MV Britannic (3):

The MV Britannic which was a state of the art ship of her time and a new modern type of ship for the White Star Line, was launced on August 6th 1929 at Harland and Wolff, Belfast, UK.

Britannic was the slightly older sister ship of the last ever ship built for the White Star Line, Georgic.

Britannic started her maiden voyage from Liverpool - New York on 28th June 1930.

Britannic had accommodation for cabin, tourist and third class passengers.

After Cunard and White Star merged in May 1934, like all Cunard and White Star ships, Britannic flew both the Cunard and White Star flag (the white star flag on top).

In August 1939 she become a troop transport until 1947, by the end of the war she had transported over 180,000 troops and had gone 376,000 miles.

After she was returned to Cunard White Star in March 1947, she was given a refit at Liverpool before being returned to service.

Britannic was used to make cruises between New York and the Caribbean during the winter.

By 1960 Britannic was an old ship and the last White Star ship in service for the by then Cunard line, so on 11th November 1960 the last white star ship to fly the White Star flag left Liverpool for New York for one last voyage and just 2 days after she returned she was sold for scrap. - The White Star Line was no more and never again would a ship sail for the once mighty line.

Vedic:

In 1918 Harland and wolff built the White Star Line Ship Vedic. She was fitted out as a troop transport ship until 1920 when she was refitted and put into service on the Liverpool to Canada service. In 1925 she was put into service on the Australian emigrant service. Just like many of the White Star Lines ships she was sold for scrap in 1934. The Vedic was broken up at Rosyth.
