Re: which of the sisters

Like Queen Mary, Olympic should've been made into a floating hotel (with her mighty engines kept intact) as well...and permanently berthed at Long Beach Harbor right next to QM, where she would be more appreciated.emoticon emoticon

I would've of been thrilled to pieces to seek employment aboard her, even if I had to work as a maid. Still it would've been thrilling to see her everyday in all kinds of weather from the freeway, as I would be driving to work...seeing the fog hover just above her two masts and four funnels, with them sticking up into it. Then to leave her in the evening, as I look back at her through my rearview mirror, and see her lit up like a Christmas tree. WOW!!! What a picture(s) that would make!?

And that's not all...hopefully, I would encounter my Will's spirit, aboard her, and we would automatically be attracted to each other for reasons we know why.emoticon ::sigh::

Instead of being shamelessly scrapped. That she certainly didn't deserve, did she? emoticon

No,indeed she did not...but unfotunately economics was economics...I too would have been thrilled to work aboard her...go up to the bridge and relive...memories...

I got to go on the QM and up on her bridge I had flashbacks...good ones, but that is a whole other story...but they certainly would have made a pair of very lovely ladies.

That they would! That they would! With one taking us back to the gilded age, and...I'm not too sure what age QM represented, though.

But to me, I see another great lady she portrayed, such as the SS Poseidon in The Poseidon Adventure.

Oly could've been used to portray her two younger sisters; Titanic and Britannic in films made about them. See how useful she would have become, even if she were in retirement?

I guess the QM would have maybe been the Art Deco since she was put into service sometime in the 30s.

It's such a shame that they have scrapped all of these lovely Ladies and left us (if wer're lucky) just some photos. I know I would love to roam around almost anything that was floating in 1912...sails, steam...I'd take ANY AND ALL of ;em!

yes i too would have liked to have seen the olympic left in service one way or another.

however unfortunately cunard didnt see it that way. and neither did white star line. they saw her as a hazzard waiting to happen. especially after her ramming the nantuckett lightboat. her wiring was bad as well and the company at the time did not have the money to replace it so they sold her and scrapped her.

yes you are right lights it was olympic that lasted the longest.

the point was brought up about depending on what was meant. well either way you look at it the olympic is still in service on board other ships and in hotels so she has out lasted titanic and brittanic.

Alhtough I never expect to see anyone's spirit on QM, I always get a pang of wistfulness when I go to the bridge and I think..."What a shame Rostron never got to take THIS Lady out for a spin...these two were MADE for each other!"
