Dogs

My last one went by so fast I thought I'd put another one on right away to keep up the momentum.

We mention Titanic dogs now and then--usually in connection with their demise--but some did survive. Yes, the question is how many...but that's too easy--a simple guess would do....so let's get their names, their owners...and which lifeboat each of them escaped in. That should hold us for a little while...maybe.
Oh, and how about their breeds too.

Maybe this is too easily found...or that one of us here is a doglover (I know some, and they are all obsessed) and has all this memorized by heart already....

I know 2:

Henry Sleeper Harper and his Pekinses, Sun-Yat-Sen

JJ Astor and his Airdale, Kitty

You're half right, even though you didn't mention it was lifeboat #3 that Sun Yat-Sen escaped in.

However; Kitty did not survive....

So there's still half the question. So I'll try to come up with another one.....

But it was a Pomerainian belonging to Margeret Hays. They got away on lifeboat #7.

If you have Don Lynch's Titanic: An Illustrated History you will perhaps find the reference you are seeking in a box in the book called I believe "Dogs on the Titanic emoticon

Yeah, i do see the point of those who complained about the dogs in the lifeboats but it was only three and all appear to have been lapdogs...I guess some people think of them as almost their children, so I can see why they wouldn't want to leave them behind. On the other hand... emoticon
