Hi!
Just a quick note to say that it's on course for publication in two months' time: October 2004. That's six months ahead of the original schedule. Quite rare in publishing!
It can be ordered from:

Re: RMS Olympic: Titanic's Sister
I had never heard the word 'Purdy' before! So it means 'good' or something like that? (Forgive my ignorance!)
It is a nice shot of her in wartime. Strictly speaking the colours are a little more varied, but it does look quite nice.

Re: RMS Olympic: Titanic's Sister
i like that photo of her . it is a nice one.
it shows a lot of the troops that she carried as well. and even the lifeboats are painted different colors.
any idea mark on how long it took them to do the "war paint" on olympic?
just curious as i know it must have taken quite a while.
thanks for the link as well.

Re: RMS Olympic: Titanic's Sister
Hi The Foxes!
Thanks for your kind words.
Hi Wills!
It is a nice shot of Olympic, although strictly speaking it isn't a photograph. You've paid the artist a great compliment by thinking it is! The original was a black and white photo, and this is an artist's version. It's a pity that there aren't any colour images at this date. I wish there were!
I don't think that the war paint took much longer than a normal thorough painting during a refit. It was changed several times during the war. As you've implied, I'm sure it would have been harder than the normal 'all black' hull paint (excluding the superstructure, funnels, etc.)
Kindest regards,
Mark.

Re: RMS Olympic: Titanic's Sister
You learn something new every day!
I'm not sure how long the painting took -- quite a while I'd guess.
Best wishes to all,
Mark.
