Cell Phones
Something on my mind - I almost got hit twice today by some idiot talking on their cell while driving. I'd really like to see handhelds (not hands-free) phones made illegal in the US as they are in Italy and other countries. How do you guys feel?

Re: Cell Phones
It is illegal in Australia to use a hand held mobile (cell) phone while driving. The fines differ from state to state, but in Queensland, where I live, it is a $2400.00 fine, and some Insurance companies won't pay for a claim if it is attributed to driver negligence caused by talking on a handheld mobile.
Handsfree set up is allowed. Some police in this state sre so diligent, that if they see you with the phone in your hand, they will fine you whether you are talking on it or not, it is then left to you to fight the charge in court.

Re: Cell Phones
Just a note, those who have Nokia's, you might want to get yours checked on. The other night they did a news story here and I think it was 2 or 3 Nokia phones exploded when they were being charged.

Re: Cell Phones
Well at this point, with a stepson just hit by a car rounding a corner with the driver on (what else) a cell phone, I'm sorry it wasn't her head right then, but I think I've lost my perspective on it. I'm one of those people who excuses myself in a public place to take a call - I think the rules should be would you take this call under similar circumstances in your own home? - and REALLY wish others would do so as well. There are restaurants and live theaters here in D.C. that will toss you out never to return (although you WILL pay for dinner) if a cell phone rings on the premises, it's gotten so bad.
Seems you got me on a rant - I didn't know I owned one!
