3rd class during sinking
i know that 3rd class passengers were not trapped in the way shown in the films but were they stopped from getting to the boats or not told to go to them.

Re: 3rd class during sinking
Not really sure aloptia432,The surviving officer (can't remember which one) in an interviewd stated that does not matter if the women was first or third class, every women was equal and no third class women was held back. I don't know if he is telling the turth or not but there is no evidence if it did happen or not.

Re: 3rd class during sinking
I could be wrong, but I've heard it took 2nd Officer Lightoller two weeks to find his way from one end of Titanic to the other. The passengers, of course, didn't have two weeks to find their way around. It's possible some Third Class passengers simply got lost while trying to get to the lifeboats. I've also heard that the White Star Line tried to blame the large number of Third Class deaths on passengers who couldn't speak English.

Re: 3rd class during sinking
I do not know if this is actually true...but I saw a recent (2012 I believe) documentary about the Titanic to where they recreated the events of the Adergoole 14, a famed Ireland Titanic passenger community that sailed to the US on the Titanic and only 3 of the 14 survived. In the documentary, they recreated the Stewards not allowing passengers to gain access to the other decks for assistance; they had to have some of the men hoist the women up on their hands, whether or not this is true, I am not sure.
If someone could fill me in on the accuracy of what I just said, please let me know.
