Shangas strolls up the gangway...

...and into the forum.

Where to begin...

I'm a 'net friend of Geran30. We run our own forum and we're both Titanic buffs. I'm an Australian in his early twenties. I'm a general history and antiques buff/lover. My areas of interest are varied, but all somehow linked to history and the past. I'm happy to talk about almost anything from the medieval period up until 1945 and the end of WWII. This includes, but is not limited to...

The Victorian era, the Edwardian era, WWI, Prohibition, the Great Depression, WWII, The Georgian/Regency era, and famous disasters such [sign in to see URL] sinking of the [sign in to see URL]. Titanic, to name but one.

I collect, repair and use vintage fountain pens. I own an antique pocket watch which is my daily timepiece. I have a large collection of jazz & oldies music from 1900-1950s. I also collect old-time-radio shows. I have episodes of "Amos & Andy", "Jack Benny", "Abbott & Costello", "The Shadow", "Sherlock Holmes", and several other classic radio shows, on my computer.

I'm happy to answer any questions about myself that you might have. Just be warned now, that a hardcore history nut has just joined your forum.

Hey there.

My watch is a 14-size Waltham M1895, manufactured in [sign in to see URL] means it's older than the Titanic. I bought it in my local flea-market as a 21st birthday present for myself. Last serviced August 2008. It's important to have your pocket watch serviced regularly (every five years) if you use it daily or with any form of regularity.

It was made in Waltham, Massachusetts, USA, for a jewellery shop in Melbourne, Australia. Since I live in Melbourne, Australia, it was nice and local! It's a seven-jewel handwound mechanical movement with a 36-hour mainspring. Stem-wind, stem-set, in a gold-filled case. It's an open-faced pocket watch with roman numerals and a sub-seconds dial.

Here's a photo of my watch:

Hi Shangas!

Welcome to TDTSC, and I hope you enjoy your stay here.

Australia, was one of the ports Will Murdoch visited early on in his seafaring career. I believe that He served as 2nd Mate aboard the Runic...the same ship for which he would eventually meet his wife-to-be, Ada Florence Banks.

It's also where singer-actress, Olivia Newton-John ("Sandy," in Grease) hails from too.

And where Dr. Rev. Billy Graham took one of his Crusades to, many moons ago.

I surely hope that the fires there have all been extinguished, and that the country side is back on the mend there?

MA

Welcome to the forum.

That is a very nice watch. I love going to my local flea market, I buy original old White Star Line and Cunard post cards from there.

Hey everyone.

Yes, the fires are out. We're all safe and sound.

And deliciously crispy.
