By Jennifer Viegas, Discovery News
Nov. 5, 2004 — A massive debris field that includes a 100-foot section of the Titanic's hull has been found two miles under the North Atlantic, according to [sign in to see URL]. Titanic Inc., the company granted exclusive rights to salvage the ship.

On Friday, Ohio State University engineer Robert Essenhigh also released his new theory as to why the ship that carried 2,227 passengers and crew struck an iceberg four days into its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York.

That thing must have floated down slowly after the break-up - does anyone know where on the ship it was from?

It would be interesting to see where its from if that can ever be determined... The is probably a lot of interesting stuff outside the accepted parameters of the debris field.

Hi

On the reply side I would imagine that the piece is from around the split. Not a technichen though I am only assuming that when she broke up a piece or indeed pieces broke away as well from the stress factor or strain. And it would indeed flot down in a different way to the rest as it was a different shape weight etc.

I imagine a fair amount of the stuff around the break parachuted all ovr the [sign in to see URL] of the things that's often intrigued me was how much of the ship was in the same locale, seeing as she broke apart at the surface.

Hi TTf

IMHO I would say that the ship was actually held more or less together even though it did break at the surface, Ther is a lot of things like pipes gurders beams parts of the superframe etc acting as a sort of umbilical cord. So the split like I say although started at the surface and indeed broke the back at the surface maybe did not entirely split till later in the plummet down to the sea bed.

I have been as close to the original 'big peice' as I am to this computer and it was pretty moving. Also myself and my eldest had the chance to touch a peice of hull which we did, several times lol. I'm sure you've all heard that before but I still find it amazing emoticon
