Tracing a White Star Employee

I have no idea where to start the search for my great grandfather.

I know his name was Percy Talbot Furnish, he was working for the White Star Line as was his wife, whose name escapes me.

Does anyone have any ideas where I might start my search for information?

Hi,

When did he work for the line and what was his job?

What sort of information are you looking for?

He was a Purser or Burser....I can never spell that one.

He worked around the time of the Titanic I think. I'm looking for any information I can find. We know nothing about this part of the family.

Hi Loz

If you have his DOB it will be a lot easier, also if he worked for the WSL he may receive a pension from them or his family so you could start there.

Do a PRO search that could through something up, as a search on the service records. Or as Tom says a search of the census records etc may bring something to light.

How much do you know? and as Tom says what do you want to know? if you put here what you already know there may be someone who can add to it.

Graham

Re: Tracing a White Star Employee

I have found some more info.

Percy Talbot Furnish born June 1880 in Kirby Cane, Norfolk.

His wife was Martha Grewcock born Sept 1870.

With regards to what I wish to know, anything really. This entire branch of my family history is a mystery to me.

Mostly though, my Granny says they were aboard the Titanic and I want to know if they were aboard.

Re: Tracing a White Star Employee

My great granduncle John Turtle (1869-1943) was a porter with the White Star Line in Liverpool. His grandson, whom I have just recently made contact with, says that his grandfather was due to sail on the Titanic. His wife was very ill at the time (she died in 1913) so he was allowed to stay behind. How can I find out if he was in fact employed by White Star?
