Re: horse power???
Exact figure escapes me, but I would think somewhere round 55,000 HP for all fo them.

Re: horse power???
I am fairly sure that the total horsepower possible was 56,000; 20,000 from each of the reciprocating engines and 16000 from the turbine engine.

Re: horse power???
I'm goign with 15,000 HP for each of the reciprocators and about 25,000HP for the turbine.

Re: horse power???
In another thread several weeks ago, I outlined some of the different estimates of the horsepower that Olympic and Titanic's engines could develop. I am curious as to why they seem to be considered unimportant.
According to Olympic's Chief Engineer in 1911, the engines could develop 59,000 horsepower. That would seem to be the most reliable figure. You cannot get much -- I might go as far to say, any -- closer to an authoratative estimate.
While the estimates of 15,000 horsepower for each of the reciprocating engines is correct for them at around 75 r.p.m., they could develop significantly more at 83 r.p.m. As for the turbine, an estimate of 25,000 horsepower is too high -- even at 190 r.p.m.

Re: horse power???
Thank you for the information, Mark. I learn something new every time I come over here and I have learnt yet something else new again.
As for an authoritative statement re-horsepower, you can get much more authoritative than the Chief Engineer of the Olympic.
