That would be the nicest thing to believe happened to Captain Smith. Truly.

My personal favorite will always be the mummy, but I've always has a sneaking admiration for the Titanic _ Olympic Conspiracy folks - that one's wild even for me!

Yeah, I never bought into that theory about them being switched. I guess some people will believe anything or put anything at all into print. emoticon

Still yet another totally ludicrous one, is the claim that Will Murdoch allegedly shot himself. Now that's something I'll never believe happened. How do the rest of you feel about this?

I really don't think he shot himself. I think that is just another one of the many many myths out there surrounding that terrible night. What must his family have thought upon hearing that!!! I can't imagine. I do agree with you though, I don't think that happened.

Re: Titanic Myths

It spooked me a little to read Jade's message about someone claiming they are recieving distress signals from Titanic and that people need help down there! I know it's daft but still a little spooky don't you think?

I often wonder about the ship being cursed from the start. They say the Hull number was a sign - 390904 (spelling No Pope when read backwards in a mirror!)

Was it doomed from the start? It seems that they are many what ifs that could have saved Titanic... What if her departure date hadn't have been moved to a later date? What if she hadn't have been delayed by the near collision with the New York when departing at Southampton?

Did you hear about the engine room worker who thought it would be funny to climb one of the smoke stacks and peep his dirty little face out of the top? That scared many of the passengers who believed it was an evil sign. Lol

The one that gets me the most has to be Morgan Robertson's novel about the Titan! That's too weird!

Being serious though, some of these do make me think twice!

I know there is something about a mummy on board too, but i am unfamiliar with this one. Would you enlighten me?

Thanks, Chelle xx

Re: Titanic Myths

Hi, truetitanic

Well according to myth, a coffin containing the mummy of the Princess of Amen-Ra ended up on Titanic when an American collector purchased her from a British museum. No one wanted her anymore because it is said that everyone who had come into contact with her in anyway met with some sort of disaster. Anyway, some people say that because she was on Titanic it cursed the ship and that was the reason for her sinking on her maiden voyage. Other versions of the story go on to say that the American collector paid officers off to make sure the mummy was placed in a lifeboat. Rumors also circulated that after this voyage she also was on the Empress of Ireland and the Lusitania went they had their unfortunate ends. It is all made up with no truth to any of it. Just one of those rumors people try to pass off as true. Creepy all the same.

Hi,

This myth holds no credence at all, as TITANIC's hull number was "401" not "390904"

I agree totally albyau, just another one of those rumors that get started with people trying to pass them off as if they were true. emoticon Kind of funny, because this particular thing is easily checked out. Just like there being no way the Olympic and Titanic being switched could be true. All you have to do is check the hull numbers!!!!
