don't know how much you know or want to know about the morro castle but here is some information.

morro castle was a 11,520 ton twin screw electric ocean liner.
she belonged to the new york & cuba steamship co.

she was launched on 5th of march 1930.
at newport news virginia.
her last voyage and the most notorious one was in september of 1934.

her captain was wilmott.
he didn't look very well at the begining of the voyage.
as a matter of fact people have been known to say that this voyage in particular felt wrong from the beginning.
she was a beautiful liner top of the line .
she was plagued with problems though.
gambling,
mutiny ,
smuggling[drugs,rum, immigrants ect.]
wilmott actually found on one voyage several kegs of cuban rum at the bottom of an elevator shaft.
he threw it all overboard and made his drunken crew watch the whole thing.
he felt uneasy with his crew and officers the feelings were mutual among the crew as well.
anyway during this voyage wilmott on the last day 9/8/1934 she was headed up the us coastline and heading right into a gale.
the crew and passengers were drunk and at dinner the catain refused to eat with the passengers instead he had his food brought to him in his cabin.
then later ordered the dr up with an enema.
when the dr came in he found the captain half way in the tub and dead.

the cheif officer warms took over command.
however was not very good at it.
when they ran into the storm he was showing his fear and was very jittery.
he actually lost his masters certifricate at one time for 18 months.

anyway.
passengers were drunk in the writting room and were tossing lit cigerrettes into a waste basket for fun and caught the rug on fire they were caught by a watchman and sent to their cabins.
hope this helps in some way
more to come in a few.

Hi teamtunafish

Does it make a difference.

I am preparing the Morro castle file now so it should not be too long before I send it to the board.

It is a long one and needs to be broke down to fit but I hope it helps you.

Regards
Graham

thank you thank you.

you know as i was doing research on her for people not to know for sure what happened to her there certainly is a lot of theories about it and a lot of information.
the clueless could actually 'drown' in the sea of info just on the web.

Hi Wills

Very true, it is a matter of knowing what to sift through a lot of the time, plus like the papers etc. don't believe everything you read on the net. It does not take long for people to spider there way through some sites and make it real. Seen it too many times. But the Morro Castle was a strange case all round. And I suppose still is today
