How a person of color would be treated in First Class...
If those of you whom have seen and loved Touched By An Angel, you'll know that angel Tess, and Della Reese, her protrayer, are African-American.
If a woman such as Tess would grace the First Class aboard ship as a wealthy African woman...I would like to know if she would be well received among her peers?

Re: How a person of color would be treated in First Class...
Given the age, it would depend upon many factors...the most important, unfortunately, being whether or not she could "pass" (for white)...there was an Afican-American boxer who was denied passage on the TITANIC specifically because of his race...or at least so I have heard...I would say that someone obviously of colour would, unfortunately have had a hard time on a WSL ship...I understand the gentleman in question travelled to the US on a Cunard ship.

HI Tammy
This is a interesting point, Racial predudice was a massive thing then, In fact WSL was ordered not to employ coloured people, It was thaught too embarasing for the first class. Italians where just been allowed to work with the ships, and not seen as good people. Interesting though the WSL employed many chinese people, Not just on its cargo ships but in the office.
I would suspect if a dark person was allowed to travel the most of the first class would be in arms about it.

Re: How a person of color would be treated in First Class...
Thank you both for your help. OK, then...that's all I need to know, because that way, I could have Tess just pop in & out at will. Such as this following scene I have prepared from your FC scenario, Lights, with Will at his favorite little niche aboard Titanic (which also could have been his favorite aboard Olympic too), just before he retires for the night...
quote: "Every prayer gets answered, Baby. Sometimes the answer is 'no.' Sometimes the answer is 'not yet.'" Tess said, understandably to Murdoch, as she places her hand on his. "Sure you've had setbacks, and you'll have others. It's not important how many times you've fallen. It's how many times you let God pick you up that matters."
"But, how did you know what I was praying about?" Murdoch asks, looking perplexed, at this kindhearted ebony-colored elderly woman.
Patting his hand, she replies, "God heard your prayer. That's why He sent me to you."
"God heard my prayer! Who are you!?" He asks next, with a look of disbelief on his face, he leans forward to study her more closely.
"I'm a messenger from God," She replies, simply. "I'm here to tell you that He loves you. He wants to deal with what you can do right now. Because 'now' is all you can change."
After hearing Tess' revelation, Murdoch begins feeling his emotions rise deep within him, as he fights to hold back the tears that are welling up in his eyes. Who would ever believe that a true messenger actually visited him, from God, as an answer to his prayer? Who would really believe that he would hear it himself, that God really does love him? And that He wants to deal with whatever change I can do right now, he wonders.
'What is it God wants to help me change?' He turns again to his heavenly messenger to ask, but only to find she is gone. ~ TITANIC-TBAA FanFiction, "Bon Voyage, Titanic!"

In all possibility, he may not have been allowed to go into First Class at all - Jack Johnson was refused passage on another liner, that's where Ledbelly came up with his idea for De Titanic.

Angels, on the other hand, no matter what color they are, can go anywhere on the ship they want to...just as long in Tess' case, she remains invisible (except to her fellow caucasian angels, and Will-as I wrote it in the above sample scenario).
In other words, she can has the permission of "the" most high to pickpocket J. Bruce ismay's pocket, to retrieve that iceberg warning...and then hand it over to Will.

With Tess being invisible, that iceberg warning can mysteriously disappear out of his pocket. So that when Captain Smith asks for it back, then Ismay searches for it in his pocket and can't find it...he'll have egg all over his face. Then he'll cause E.J. to panic.
Cool idea. Huh!?!
