I guess they now feed the data to the computer (data such as the size of the ship, the type whether it is meant for carrying people or oil and the desired speed she supposed to travel) and the PC will produce the best design that serves these. You must have noticed the similarity in new cars shape. The new modles all look a like or similar to the extent that one would think that they were designed by the same designer or that companies steel designs from each other!!! I know that in the automobile industry they depend largely on computers nowadays. So I guess you are right, if the design of the Titanic (although I love very much) would have been re-made today it will sure be different. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Titanica)Tue, 04 May 2004 07:07:40 +0000 Re: Queen Mary 2....a Titanic experiance!!https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p8801,from=rss#post8801https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p8801,from=rss#post8801the design for titanic in 1912 would not work on the ships of today because they are not able to handle the sea with the same shape as titanic. even if they were to build a brand new titanic they would still have to modify it to make it work for today. willsnondisclosed_email@example.com (wills)Tue, 04 May 2004 03:00:03 +0000 Re: Queen Mary 2....a Titanic experiance!!https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p8800,from=rss#post8800https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p8800,from=rss#post8800hello you two, yes there will never be nor has there been yet a ship that can be compared to titanic since her untimely dimse in 1912. however we also must take into consideration the ships of today. the bulbous bow is to help the ship cut through the water faster and safer. the wings are designed as well to help keep her balanced even in rough seas. there are reasons to every detail in the construction of todays ocean going liners. i am quite sure that if tom andrews was here today he would approve of the new ship building. wills nondisclosed_email@example.com (wills)Wed, 28 Apr 2004 22:20:46 +0000 Re: Queen Mary 2....a Titanic experiance!!https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p8799,from=rss#post8799https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p8799,from=rss#post8799she sure did Tammy yesnondisclosed_email@example.com (graham 01)Wed, 28 Apr 2004 07:07:46 +0000 Re: Queen Mary 2....a Titanic experiance!!https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p8798,from=rss#post8798https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p8798,from=rss#post8798quote:Graham 01 wrote: Hi Tammy I agree with you the olympic class ships looked good and where good. Now that's how you build a ship!!! So, my hat goes off to one Mr. Thomas Andrews for his awesome design(s) of his trio of babies; Olympic, Titanic, and Britannic. Your above comment struck me silly...so much so that you unintentionally fractured my funny bone. Just kidding. Come to think of it, QM2's bow does give off that impression, doesn't it? But what in the heck is that thing sticking out from QM2's keel bow!? Because it "certainly" takes away the smooth look of her bow, doesn't it? I much prefer the bows of our WSL ladies, over these latest productions, that's for sure! Oly too, you see--ran into rough seas on her return home, hence proving her seaworthiness as a seagoing vessel, with Captain E.J. Smith as her commander. And can you guys guess whom served as Deck Officers aboard her (aside from E.J. & Will Murdoch), during Oly's round trip crossing.
