Ship names

Name seven ships that Capt E.J. Smith commanded.

Give you a hint...they all ended with 'ic'. emoticon

Which brings me to the second part of this...exactly which year did White Star line start that name practice?

Republic, Celtic, Majestic, Baltic, Olympic, Titanic, and Adriatic, not (obviously) in that order.

According to Gary Cooper's "The Man Who Sank the Titanic?" Smith's White Star commands were:
April-August 1887: Baltic I (temporary)
April-May 1888: Baltic I
June-September 1888: Britannic I
December 1888: Cufic I
January 1889: Republic I
April-July 1889: Celtic I
December 1889-January 1889: Coptc
December 1890-February 1891: Adriatic I
March-April 1891: Runic I
May 1891-May 1893: Britannic I
June 1893: Adriatic I
July 1893-January 1895: Britannic I
January 1895: Cufic I
January-April 1895: Britannic I
May-June 1895: Germanic
July 1895-November 1902: Majestic I
December 1902-May 1903: Germanic
May 1903-June 1904: Majestic I
June 1904-March 1907: Baltic II
May 1907-February 1911: Adriatic II
June 1911-March 1912: Olympic
April 1912: Titanic

exactly which year did White Star line start that name practice
The first six names (Oceanic, Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, Baltic and Adriatic) began to appear in newspaper reports in 1870, and Oceanic (named for the company) made her maiden voyage in March 1871. Pacific and Arctic were never used; they were replaced in the first six with Republic and Celtic.
