Who would you befriend
I am going to be really different here, If anyone I would of loved to of spent time with a few people.
The first is Clinch Smith, He was a first class passenger aboard and lost his life. I did a lot of work on him and my partner at the time. He was such a great character and very close and good friend of Colonel Gracie who managed to survive.
Another person I would like to shoot ball and drink with is Stead, We have so much in common on some things and his editorials are still something to think about. His belief's and ability are similar in style and ways to my own. Plus he came from where I am near now and his relatives are good people.
But also I would of liked to be with some third class, They seem to be left out in any major discussion on Titanic. They where the ones who where going to loose the most. They had there whole lives packed in the cargo hold or on body. Unlike first and most second class people they if they did survive still lost everything.
As for crew, well now where do I start. EJ the man himself. Respected loved by passengers and the line. What wonderful images he had on life if you look into him. Now there is a man who could have a good time yet keep his composure at the same time.
Murdoch, Fantastic personality,
Lightoller, Well what can one say he went from one venture full of excitement to the next. And if it was not there he would manufacture it. I use the Gary here as a example. He always put his crew first and stood by them in the manner a good officer should. Never shirked responsibility and was loved by all who touched his life. If he allowed them in of course.
Moody, The young debonair officer. Full of grace for anyone and the full understanding of life at sea. He saw the horror of seamanship from the start but buckled down and carried on a lot of people would of walked away and headed for another career. He was like lights not going to see people drown. Plus again from my home town. I can imagine him now playing pool at the local and running down to the harbour when the life boat goes out making sure he was aboard to help.
Ismay, well you all expected that didn't you. He was a great man. Lost in the world of media hype. But gentle and caring in his own way. His Father now there is a man to drink with. Elder and professional in all he did. Built things from the bottom not handed on a plate like so many of his followers.
Then there is the story of the owner of the Black Ball line. Real pirate. he even stole the name of the line. Brilliant man but a bad one. The sort you want on your side in the local pub brawl. Black Ball line ships by the way was the last ship to still carry canons on passenger runs across the Atlantic.
So take your pick look round the room next time you are in the pub or local and I will be there sat with them laughing drinking and maybe a lit bit of the other :-)
Regards
Graham

Re: Who would you befriend
That is very true Wills
From the richest which is what most people say they want to meet to the poorest which is the type of person I would of liked to meet as they lost most regardless of what others lost

Re: Who would you befriend
I think primarily I would like to spend time with both the officers and crew. That maybe because of my interest in all things nautical. I would also like to spend time with stokers, stewards, cooks and other "support personnel" to learn more of their lives were like as well.

Me2, Lightsy. Because that is where I met "my" better half.

Re: Who would you befriend
After giving the matter much thought, I think that I would like to mingle with all classes of folks aboard Titanic...for they all have interesting stories to tell.
Oh! I would like very much to also add Thomas Andrews as another particular favorite, because with him...I could explore every little nook 'n' cranny of his prized ship.
