Freman: William Murdock - the other Murdoch

To prove my point that this William Murdock isn't the common-law husband of Elizabeth Crogent...but the true spouse of Catherine (surname is unknown), the mother of their three children; Ann Martin, William John, and Joseph.

Encyclopedia Titanica: Fireman: William Murdock [www.encyclopedia-titanica.org] Accessed Sun Jun 29 06:09:01 2003.

Re: Freman: William Murdock - the other Murdoch

tammy ,
william was married to one woman and one woman only.
that being ada florence banks.
however when that name was mentioned in the papers it gave aid a false hope that it was her will.
the name murdoch was a very common name. it was often spelt several different ways.
as a matter of fact the name william murdoch was quite a common name for that time frame.
it is still somewhat common today,
when suggesting that william was married to 2 different women people need to get all the facts before presenting them to the public. that is a very common mistake .

hi Gang

Ermm have I missed something here, I don't recall ever reading anything about Murdoch been married to two different women.

I agree at the time of Titanic the name William and Murdoch where both very popular names .

Please can someone tell me more on this theory.

Regards
Graham

Re: Freman: William Murdock - the other Murdoch

hi graham.

according to some people after the movie titanic came out in 97 a beautition claimed she was will murdochs great-great- grand daughter or just one great....
anyway she claimed or claims that she was the result of a marriage that was made in liverpool. she said that after the titanic sank the family 'will's supposed wife and their 7 children were thrown into poverty ovenite,
well anyway needless to say nothing has been proven no reasearch has turned up anything different.

now i have pointed out before that william murdoch was a very common name back then around titanic era. it is still common today as well.
some people just spell murdoch different.
anyway i believe he was married to ada florence banks and her only.
they got married on the 2nd of september, 1907. at st.deny's church in southampton england.
william and elizabeth hannah stood as witnesses to the marriage.
at the time will was renting a home from them . so hope this helps.

Hi Wills

Thanks for clearing that up got to admit it is the first I have heard of it but I don't do much research on crew and passengers. apart from the ones that I need to.

Interesting story though but irritating I assume to some people.

When the titanic sank there was all sorts of claims made from people so I assume this may of been one of them.

There is another rumor circulating that William McMaster Murdoch was engaged to marry, the ceremony to take place after the completion of the maiden voyage...either it's pure bilgewater or our William was one busy little sailor! emoticon

ok.
let me get this straight

a woman in liverpool,
a woman in new york,
a woman in southampton[AID]
and another woman he was suppose to marry on some maiden voyage ?

ok when the heck did he find time to be a great officer one of which we all here know he was ?
i am a huge murdoch fan dont get me wrong but come on now i really dont think that he would seriously have time for all this nonsense. i mean that is 4 women total that is mentioned in this thread alone. wow he was a busy little sailor then wasnt he.

however if any factual proof can be given then by all means go ahead i am all for it budt untill then the only marriage that occurred was between william mcmaster murdoch and ada florence banks on the 2nd of september 1907. at 10 am in the morning at st.deny's church in southampton england.

however on a slightly different note i will say this much.......
like i have before however i believe it is definately worth repeating again...

what that man[william murdoch] did on the ship between the shores on shore and at home was his business and nobody elses no matter what.
if he cheated on aid then that is their business not ours if the woman in new york was indeed a lover then so be it ...
it is his business and his alone.
when it comes right down to it .. ada loved william very much in fact enough to never marry againand she chose to live in 'solitude' the rest of her life.
if he did have a lot of women and that is a big if. then he must have certainly know how to treat them very well in order to keep them comming back for more.
