yes they do and a lot of times they do not care whom it hurts or what can come of if ...
as long as they get their checks and that is not the way things should be ...
but that is anywhere you go no matter where

I got a thimble with a sinking Titanic pictured on it. Come to think about it, I feel it too, is also a rather tacky tasteless item.emoticon

Why couldn't they have painted the picture of her sailing along in her glorious beautiful self? emoticon

that is a logical question tammy,
however i believe the reason they dont do that is because for the most part ...people remember her sinking with her stern in the air and then suddenly breaking in two.

hi

I agree with what you both say here, It is a shame that whenever tacky things come on the market ( which by the way may not be tacky to all) it always has the sinking, But like Wills sys that is how people see the titanic.

If you was to do a poll on her and asked people about the titanic in it, there first answer would be "it sunk" never or very few would say she was the biggest ship of her time, technologically advanced for her time, Beautiful interior etc. But two words " it sunk"

It is a big shame but the truth

Re: Tacky and Tasteless Titanic Collectibles

Whats interesting is something that to most people wouldn't be considered tacky, is considered tacky to some. For example the Purfume that they brought up and made fingerprints of, someone I know said they shouldn't do that and shouldn't make a profit off the disaster... I don't call that making a profit off disaster, I call it bringing back the era and have nothign against it.

Now, Thimbles, Snowglobes, electric banks that have the Titanic plowing into an iceberg, TACKY and is what I consider "anything for a buck"... Also am not too fond on the skeleton with the Titanic sailor cap on but I won't go there since someone mentioned they had one...

hi Rosie

You don't mind me calling you Rosie do you? I can put the 1912 in if you do. ;-)

What you say about the tackiness of things to some is not to others is correct, like the saying goes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. we all have something in whatever we collect that would be considered tack. I suppose in a way the meaning of the word tacky is a cheap unusable item likely to break if you use it.

I am afraid I have to agree with that someone whoever it was. I am anti salvage and nothing anyone says is going to change my mind. if the Titanic had sunk and no lives where lost then fine, Bring what they want up. The whole ship would be great then, But soles where lost there and soles are still in her. I know people say that the stuff they bring up was not placed as a gift to the dead etc. but it is there belongings been robbed from them.

I also agree people should not make a profit from the disaster in that way, Or any other disaster for that matter, That I am afraid I class as blood money. Why was bringing the perfume a must to find out, ? we can remake that no problem so why the original has to be brought back up I am at a loss. What have we learned from it. In reality very little or nothing. We know the person it belonged to was a salesman dealing in perfume of a very high standard. But the company did not go bust through it or I believe.

my main argument now I have gone of track completely is the thing that all these tacky things are depicting what people always say, it sunk. Yes she did sink but why can they not show a good picture of a healthy ship sailing or in dock.?

Warmest regards
Graham

This is still my all-time favorite tacky Titanic - it's not really a collectible, but wow is it tacky! [sign in to see URL]
