Once I started it I couldn't put it down. I like researching Titanic and I appreciate how she documented and detailed her adventures into the life of Lucy Latimer. The book's typos I blame on the publisher. They are responsible for final outcomes. I don't judge a book by its typos, unless they are so bad that they distort my ability to read. I judge a book by how able it is to keep my interest. If it can't keep my interest, it goes back on the shelf, or worse, in the trash.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Teri Milch)Sun, 27 Feb 2005 14:33:17 +0000 Re: I died on the Titanic by Monica O'Hara Keetonhttps://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p6348,from=rss#post6348https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p6348,from=rss#post6348Hi Wills No problem. Maybe this forum too should have a thread or section where those who care to can present thoughts and evidence etc. instead of snippits scattered all over under many topics (modeling, books etc.). I know we have here at least a couple who feel very strongly about it, albeit on opposite sides, and a couple who are very interested but not firmly on one side or the other--that's enough right there to make for a pretty lively ongoing discussion. I'm sympathetic remember. I stated my position on another thread (a modeling one I believe, where the subject came up and folks started scrapping). I'm neutral. I definitely think there could be something to it--too many people have these 'feelings'--but WHAT it is I couldn't say, but that doesn't mean I don't think it isn't worth while looking into. What I was commenting on was the sheer amount of books etc. that have come out regarding this phenomena and how much thought is given to it these days. I also commented that there are many serious questions regarding this whole thing, and the fact that they will in all likelihood can never be answered. I most heartedly agree with you that one should not jump to conclusions--whichever side of the issue one is on--without first looking into it a bit...do more than judge the book's cover as you say. Actually I am quite fascinated by the subject and have indeed done quite a bit of reading and talking on it...but still cannot come up with any conclusions except that a hellofa lot of people--sane people--do experience fragments of another past life. So in my mind perhaps there might be something to it worth looking into rationally. The only trouble is that by the very nature of the subject it defies rational investigation. You're right in that we have to accept the fact that some folks are absolute believers whether we believe it or not (I think I tend to lean more toward it), and go on from there. I'm very interested in reading and talking more about it, and as a rational and civil person I would not put anyone down who feels differently than I. I think it is the zealots that have made the problems on other boards. But on virtualy every history oriented discussion group I've ever seen, this subject comes up--it is a part of us history folks...maybe that's why many of us are so interested in certain facets of history in the first place. Who knows?nondisclosed_email@example.com (7th officer)Thu, 06 May 2004 15:33:04 +0000 Re: I died on the Titanic by Monica O'Hara Keetonhttps://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p6326,from=rss#post6326https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p6326,from=rss#post6326ok this is a very touchy subject and it has proven problems from other boards. if you do or do not believe in it then that is your porogative. however you should not know people who do believe in it and write books about it. yes sometimes[ok biggest part of the time]they are full of well lets not go there.... however every once in a great while someone does come along and makes it rather difficult to prove wrong. when you purchase these books or any kind of books you always have to remember that this person may actually believe in that and it doesnt make them right or wrong. that is for you to decide on your own. sometimes it is really difficult for people to write these kinds of stories ... always take it with a grain of salt ... or more if you would like. also i would like to point out that no one person makes you pick the books up and read them. another thing if you judge a book by what someone else says about it then that makes you just as bad as the person you are knocking [the person who wrote the book] that is your choice though but we as human beings should not be so quick to judge someone or something . just because we dont understand it or believe in it. if you have questions ask the person most of the time they are not afraid to talk about it. i guess in short what i am trying to say is never judge a book by its cover or by someone else reading it first . pick it up and read it for yourself draw your own conclusions you may surprise yourself. wills nondisclosed_email@example.com (wills)Wed, 05 May 2004 22:13:29 +0000 Re: I died on the Titanic by Monica O'Hara Keetonhttps://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p6325,from=rss#post6325https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p6325,from=rss#post6325There are quite the number of 'past life' books out there. I'm always amazed at the number of them when I see new ones. There are several from the Civil War, WWII and most any other war, some mideval ones, Old West ones. A pretty good one about Nazi concentration camp PL people (which includes some camp guards etc.), and this is not even to mention the growing number of websites and forums devoted to the subject, from just about any catagory one cares to name. The phenomena is way widespread of course, but I (and many from those sites) have some seriously hard questions to answer...which will probably never be answered. A truly complicated anomaly...but fascinating nonetheless. I'm intrigued.nondisclosed_email@example.com (7th officer)Wed, 05 May 2004 19:31:22 +0000 Re: I died on the Titanic by Monica O'Hara Keetonhttps://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p6324,from=rss#post6324https://btomdyerstitanicsitecommunity.runboard.com/p6324,from=rss#post6324Hi Rosie Yes I know what you mean and yes agree, It is rather funny actually as we where discussing this book last night just before I had to leave so not sure what the outcome was. And the way this lady talks I don't believe her.. in one discription she says "You could say I'm obsessed with Titanic, then again I did go down with her".. Sorry but I don't believe that just because you're obsessed with the Titanic means you went down with the ship.. That's like there's a book where the author thinks he's reincarnated and in his "past life" was Thomas Andrews...
